Guru Purnima (Poornima) also known as Vyasa Purnima marks the birthday of Ved Vyasa.

It is a spiritual tradition in Hindu culture dedicated to spiritual and academic Gurus, who are evolved or enlightened humans, ready to share their wisdom with very little or no monetary expectation, based on Karma Yoga.

This festival is traditionally observed by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains to revere their chosen spiritual teachers / leaders and express their gratitude.

The festival is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha (June–July).

பருக்குக்கேற்ற போல் வயிறு
வயிற்றிக்கேற்றபோல் பசி…

உணவு கண்டறியும் திறன்
உணர்வு கொண்டு செல்லும் திசை…
புழு பூச்சி பறவைகள் விலங்குகள்
மரம் மண் செடி கொடி
பூ காய் கனி மனிதன்;

பகல் விழிக்கும் உயிரினங்கள்
இரவு உணரும் உயிரினங்கள்…

அனைத்திற்கும்
அறிவு ஆற்றல் அழகு ஆயுள்
காலம் கடமை கட்டுப்பாடு…

படைத்தவன் அன்பும் அறிவும் ஆற்றலும் அழகும் அமிதமானது…
படைப்பின் நோக்கம் புதிராயினும்…
