During the Spring equinox, a day has equal number of hours of daylight and darkness.
"Vishu" which in Sanskrit means "equal" is the day when the day and night are equal. It is the festival that marks the beginning of agriculture activities for a farmer in Kerala and Tulu Nadu.
Vishukkani- the first sight of nature's gifts in the form of rice, the seasonal konna flower, mangoes, pumpkin, coconut, jackfruit, nanayam- in the form of coins representing 'truthfulness and honesty;
Silk representing the highest form of sacrifice by a creature, hence placed high in stature,
And above all the Kannadi- the Mirror revealing the supreme truth of Advaitha or non-duality with creation and the creator, that we are the image of God.
Happy Vishu to all dear ones and wishes for Ayur, Arogya, Soukhyam, prosperity, peace and unconditional love to one and all.
